11/18/23 JHBB Game Update!
The games scheduled vs. Vaughn for this Saturday, November 18th have changed. The Wildcat teams now only have two scheduled games in Sunburst -- Boys B and Girls A.

Claire is at the SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicilogy and Chemistry) North American Annula Meeting in Louisville, KY. She is the only high school student presenting original research at this 4-day International convention.

We had a fun and productive FCCLA District meeting. Our chapter met with the other chapters of District 1 and District 3/9. Workshops covered topics on leadership, service, traffic safety and mental health. At the District officer election we had Ali Nau win the position for Vice President and Gabe Bouttier win the position for Recreational Leader. Congratulations Ali and Gabe!
5th and 6th grade visited The Plains Indian Museum in Browning.

Third grade built carts to study the phenomenon of how things move, how the motion of objects can change when they roll and spin, and how we can use patterns to make predictions about things that move!
October Students of the Month
The October students of the month were recognized at the Sunburst School Board meeting last night.
Ian Benjamin, senior, was recognized as the NTCHS student of the month. Szymon May, 8th grade, was selected as the Sunburst Junior High student of the month. Kelden Tomsheck, 2nd grade, was selected as the Sunburst Elementary student of the month.
The school board commended the students for their efforts.

Sunburst - show off your college team pride and help out our local food bank! FCCLA members have organized a competitive food. Please drop off your food donations before the Griz/Cat football game on Saturday, November 18th. The food bank is in need of kid friendly food especially.

Centennial Bell Award Trip
The 4th and 5th grade classes traveled to Helena today, November 8, 2023, to help honor Mrs. Richmond being selected as the Statehood Montana Centennial Bell Award Winner and Montana History Teacher of the Year.
During the awards presentation, Lieutenant Governor Juras spoke about the importance of history being vibrantly taught to students. Mrs. Richmond accepted over $4700 in awards and graciously thanked many folks. Bree Chilton read the letter she wrote recommending Mrs. Richmond. Bree received $100 in Sacajawea coins and all Sunburst students received $5 in Sacajawea coins. Lastly, all of the 4th and 5th graders sang "Montana" and had the opportunity to ring the Montana Centennial Bell.
The students then had a wonderful tour of the Capitol Building led by Mr. Anthony . Sunburst Schools students and staff were then treated to a declivous lunch in the Capitol Rotund provided by The 1889 Coffee House from Helena.
They concluded their trip by visiting the Old Montana Governor's Mansion.
Sunburst Schools wishes to thank all of the individuals, originations , and businesses for helping put together the awards ceremony and your generosity and willingness to to our students.
It was a wonderful trip to celebrate an amazing accomplishment by Mrs. Richmond.

The following are comments from staff members regarding October’s Student of the Month recipients:
Ian Benjamin:
Ian had a very strong first quarter academically and was successful during his cross country season as well. In government class, Ian maintained a very high grade the entire quarter and did an outstanding job with his major project during the quarter. His work is outstanding and he always goes above and beyond to make sure that his work is thoroughly done and turned in well ahead of due dates when he will be absent from school. I feel like Ian exemplifies all of the criteria needed to be a deserving choice for the student of the month award. He strives to be successful in whatever he sets his mind to.
He is always a hard worker and such a fun person to be around!! Always so positive.
Ian has been a solid leader in my classes, especially ASP where he is the sole veteran and is mentoring the other 5. He is also leading our Plant the Moon project for a NASA competition ... he is really the one running it with planning, organization, directing others in their tasks, etc. Exceptional leadership and effort. Plus, he does it all with a fun and positive attitude.
He is involved in Band, Choir, Chimes, Honor Band and he is always willing to sing solos whenever needed!
Ian works hard, encouraging and helping other students, leadership shown with his younger teammates during cross country.
Szymon May:
He's always been a hard worker in the classroom, but this year I've noticed a huge change in his overall attitude about things. He's gotten a much better attitude. He always wants to please his teachers and get his work done. The biggest reason I'm nominating him, though, is his attitude and helpfulness toward a student this year. One of his peers was struggling to get work done and turned in. Szymon took it upon himself to help his peer with homework and always checked in to make sure that they got it done and turned in and stayed eligible for sports. I'm extremely proud of how much he has grown over the last year, and I think he would be a great choice for Student of the Month!
Having him in study hall, he is always helping others when needed. He puts in a lot of time and effort on his homework and is always very consistent. He has never been a kid who had to be redirected in being polite or mean to others either. He is a great role model and really took a kid under his wing in every aspect and did what was needed for him to be successful.
Kelden Tomsheck:
He has been getting kindness coins left and right (no by me) and is always trying his best and asking for help when he doesn't understand something. He has also tried to help others when he can.
Kelden has grown so much this school year in self-control. He is a great listener, eager to participate, and follows through with directions.

Minor Breakfast Change
The Wednesday, November 8, 2023, breakfast will have a minor change. Rather than blueberry scones, Sunburst Schools will be serving apple cinnamon scones.
Centennial Bell Award Streamed Live
Sunburst Schools will proudly be streaming the Centennial Bell Award presentation occurring at the Capitol in Helena, Montana, on our Sunburst Schools Facebook page from 10:00-10:30am on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
During this ceremony, Mrs. Richmond will officially be recognized as the Statehood Centennial Bell Award winner as the Montana History Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Richmond's current 4th grade students as well as her 4th grade class from last year (current 5th graders) will be there to join in the festivities, sing our state song, and ring the state centennial bell!
