Red Ribbon Week
This week, October 24-28, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week. The theme this year is "Celebrate Life: Live Drug Free!" We will be talking all week about making smart choices and not putting bad things into our bodies.
We also have special dress days as part of Red Ribbon Week!
Monday: Comfortable being drug free! (sweats day)
Tuesday: Doing drugs is crazy! (crazy dress day)
Wednesday: Put a cap on drugs! (hat day)
Thursday: Team up against drugs! (favorite team jersey)
Friday: Red Ribbon Day! (wear red)
Cross Country Results
Congrats to Nikki Nau who finished all state by placing 10th. Also competing for the Refiners were Gabriella Cosme, Claire Bucklin, Ali Nau, Ella Samsal, Avani Champanaria, Ian Benjamin, and Virgil Manthey. Great job Refiners!
Cross Coutrry State Results
The NTC Lady Refiner cross country team finished 4th at state. MHSA miscalculated the scoring and initially awarded our girls 3rd. After the awards ceremon, they recognized the error and conacted Coach Nix and informed him of the unfortunate news. Although the change of results is devastating, they all competed extremely hard and represented our school so well. Go Refiners!

We gave him the gifts yesterday, but we appreciate our Superintendent, Tyler Bucklin, everyday. Our efforts surpassed what the bag could hold without breaking so we had to grab a box. It’s a great metaphor for what he inspires us to do. (Break the mold so we can do great things for our students) Thanks for all you do to keep us on track, Mr Bucklin.
Fish Art
As part of the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Hooked on Fishing Program, Miss Cathy came and shared "fish art" with our 3rd-6th grade students. Our students learned about various kind of trout and then created their own fish.

While every teacher at Sunburst Schools works hard to include many hands-on lessons and activities, it's important to see how hard these kiddos work to memorize facts and learn about note-taking and studying skills as well. In yesterday's social studies lesson, 4th graders learned about Montana's history of Indian Education for All and we focused on Essential Understanding 1: All tribes are unique. We then included a map of Montana's reservations in our notes and labeled them accordingly!
Third grader students learned about how fossil dinosaur tracks reveal how quickly a dinosaur could run in the past. In the activity, students figured out if they could have won a race with a dinosaur that was just their size. To determine the winner, students compared the length of their running steps with the dinosaur’s steps. Unfortunately no 3rd graders outran the dinosaurs this year!
3rd graders have been learning about Montana's state symbols. To show what they've learned, they created an art piece inspired by Juane Quick-to-See Smith's "Ode to Cheif Seattle".
